Why the Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway matters
A new city needs one thing before anything else: a reliable way in. Factories, offices, schools and homes all follow the road. Without it, even the best master plan stays on paper.
The Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway gives Dholera that link to Gujarat’s biggest city. You can now plan a visit, a meeting or a delivery without guessing how long the journey will take.
This matters a lot for NRIs and buyers from Delhi-NCR and Haryana. You can fly into Ahmedabad, see your plot and be back in the city the same day.

Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway route map: Sarkhej to Adhelai

Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway route map from Sarkhej to Adhelai
The road begins at Sarkhej, where it meets the SP Ring Road. Since the ring road circles the city, you can join from most parts of Ahmedabad without fighting central traffic.
From there, it cuts south-west across open farmland on a brand-new alignment. It passes the Dholera SIR and carries on to Adhelai in Bhavnagar district. For the official alignment and interchanges, refer to the National Highways Authority of India.
Who built it
NHAI split the work into four packages so that construction could run side by side.
| Package | Length | Contractor | Value |
| 1 | 22 km | Sadbhav Engineering | ₹690.30 crore |
| 2 | 26.52 km | Sadbhav Engineering | ₹882 crore |
| 3 | 22.54 km | GHV India | ₹692 crore |
| 4 | 38.019 km | MKC Infrastructure | ₹932.22 crore |
Dholera to Ahmedabad distance: what to expect

Dholera distance from Ahmedabad by road
The full expressway runs 109 km from Sarkhej to Adhelai. Dholera comes before the end point, so your actual Dholera distance from Ahmedabad on this road is shorter than the full length. Your exact time will depend on where in the city you start.
Dholera to Ahmedabad by rail
There is no train yet. In May 2026, the CCEA approved a 134 km Ahmedabad (Sarkhej)–Dholera semi high-speed rail line costing ₹20,667 crore. Read more about the planned Dholera railway station.
Then and now: the Dholera express highway vs the old Bavla road
The old road through Bavla and Dhandhuka still exists, and locals still use it. But it runs through towns and junctions, so every trip felt like a gamble. The Dholera express highway, as many people call the new road, has fixed that with a fenced, signal-free drive.
Getting here was not quick. Land acquisition was finished in July 2020, contracts went out in November 2020, and the road opened to the public in early 2026.
How the Dholera Ahmedabad Expressway ties the region together

Think of the Dholera Ahmedabad Expressway as the spine of the region. The new airport is coming up in the same area; check our Dholera International Airport latest status for progress. Ahmedabad may also get a second link through the proposed Ahmedabad Metro Phase 3 route.
At the southern end, the road reaches Bhavnagar district. That brings the coast, and the proposed Bhavnagar port, much closer to Ahmedabad. If you want to know where early construction is concentrated, see our guide to the Dholera activation area.
On the road: what our team noticed
[ON-GROUND: describe our team’s first drive on the expressway after it opened — road surface, signage, traffic and time taken from Sarkhej, with month/year]
[ON-GROUND: describe the Dholera exit and the approach roads into the SIR as seen on our latest visit, with month/year]
The biggest change is not just time saved. It is how relaxed the drive feels, with no village crossings and no trucks overtaking from the wrong side.
A few simple tips for your first trip on the Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway. Leave early, fill fuel in the city and keep your FASTag recharged. Know your exit before you reach it, because an access-controlled road has no U-turns.
Should the expressway change your plot decision?
Here is our honest view, laid out side by side.
| What the road does | What the road doesn’t do |
| Makes site visits easy and predictable | Guarantee any rise in land prices |
| Connects the SIR with Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar | Bring industries or residents on its own |
| Gives buyers a finished project to judge | Make every “near the expressway” claim true |
Before you look at plots in Dholera Smart City, check the real road distance to the nearest interchange. Verify title, NA status and approvals. And treat it as a long-term decision, because nobody can honestly promise returns.
Our projects close to the road
Angel Aerocity is popular with our Delhi-NCR and Haryana buyers, as site visits from Ahmedabad are simple. Angel Orchid Villa suits families looking for a residential villa plot. For both, we share title papers on request and drive you there ourselves.
The Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway has made Dholera easier to reach and easier to understand. Use it to see the city with your own eyes, then decide.
